Fantasy artist and oil painter – Emile Parks interview

Emile Park is a fantasy oil painter whom I interviewed at Illuxcon 2017.

2:26 – Emile talks about what it takes to finish a piece.

4:42 – Emile talks about his inspirations. He loved Conan, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell and Frank Frazetta. He’s moved from there to Greek mythology.

5:41 – He feels he needs space to do work. He also loves working with oil and graphite.

Acrylic doesn’t do as good a job for him.

7:37 – Emile talks about how he got into painting when he was young. He loved the old masters. In the 90s he had to choose between computer art and oil painting. He chose computer art and did well. However he’s gone back to oil painting recently. It was scary to start something new but it’s been great.

10:56 – Emile talks about the use of art for propaganda and education.

14:55 – Robert E. Howard was his main inspiration. He read the novels and then about the artists who worked on the associated art.

16:26 – He’d like to create new art drawn from mythology or perhaps the Bible.

18:56 – Emile said that at an art show it’s good to have a large show stopping piece to draw in attention to our other smaller pieces.
